Exploring the mountain trail from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to le Passeur de Pralognan

A lovely hot run up the mountain with a pause to watch the paragliders launch themselves from the mountain top at 2,567m. It was very steep and tough going from the start yet with beautiful views back down towards Bourg.

Its called MExtreme for a reason. It was Extremely tough, up in the remote Swiss Alps, This event was part of the Montreuxmountain running festival. The race started in Bex and finished in Montreux. It was a very challenging race with a small field of just 400 competitors, (half of them did not finish).. With 8,000m of ascent it was a beautiful course with extremely beautiful views. I hadn't trained enough for this race but managed to complete it safely and in one piece. My finishing time was My leader board position was 9th female and 49th finisher overall...Time to recover now. 🙂❤🏔🏃‍♀️☕. PS. The last four miles my watch battery died.

Exploring the Tre Cime di Lavaredo mountains

After a couple of days rest following the Dolomyths races, we drove a couple of hours towards the Tre Cime di Lavaredo mountains, part of the the Sexten Dolomites in northeastern Italy. We found a great spot by Lake Antorno and joined lots of other camper vans and motorhomes.

Mirsie did a 30k loop around Tre Cime and the following day we hiked up Monte Piano to visit the Open Air Museum which marks the battles fought between Austria and Italy during 1915-1917. In this remove place there remain many of the trenches, tunnels and encampments created by Italian soldiers.

Dolomyths Mountain Race

The Dolomyths Ultra yesterday was a tough 60k mountain race in the Val Badia region of the Italian Dolomites . It was very demanding covering 4 summits and over 3,500m of ascent. The sun shone all day and I found the long and steep ascents challenging. Fantastic scenery all the way with clear way markings and friendly marshals. Finish time as 12 hours, 1 minute. Leader board position: 13th female. Time to recover…

Having completed day 3 of our Tour of Mont Blanc, we arrived this afternoon in the picturesque Italian town of Cormayeur.

We’ve now covered over 40 miles and climbed over 9,600ft (2,900m) through the Alps. The views are just stunning. High snow covered mountain peaks and glaciers. The trail is well marked and there are dozens of folk on the trail some like us traveling light, others carrying 15kg+ backpacks. There are mountain bikers too. It’s all very social. The mountain refuges have large dorm rooms and hearty, carbo loaded meals. We’re having a blast!

Snow and ice on the Dalmally Horseshoe

The Dalmally Horseshoe above Loch Awe in Argyll and Bute is a stunning ridge of peaks particularly when viewed from the north. Reaching the heart of this wild Highland landscape involves a challenging hike.

Without a doubt the Loch Awe Munros – Also called the Ben Cruachan mountains – have retained their incredible sense of remoteness. An extremely challenging run in deep snow and ice. Crampons essential!
